May 13, The Dead Sea and Ein Gedi Spa

Tom got up early this morning and took a bus to visit the ancient site of Masada. It is high up on a mountain plateau. Tom walked the old snake path up and then back down after spending time exploring the excavations there.

Back at the hotel, Aunt Shirley, Uncle Alex and I had a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. The food they put out at every meal is amazing. After breakfast, we took a downhill walk around the perimeter of the property where we could gaze at the mountain valley behind the hotel and then at the same time see the Dead Sea. We took these pictures of the lovely flowers we saw along the way.

The mountains and the Dead Sea all from the same spot.

A pepper plant.

A tree with a weird trunk.
Early in the afternoon we drove down the road a little bit to spenAlign Rightd the afternoon at Ein Gedi Spa. First you take a little tram ride down toward the beach. The Dead Sea is difficult to walk into because the shore is made of hard salt as you will see in the pictures below.

Salt instead of sand on the beach at the Dead Sea.

Aunt Shirley said this is her and Uncle Alex.

The real Aunt Shirley with Uncle Alex.

Tom covered in mud. After the mud dries you wash it off in the sulfer springs showers followed by regular water. Then we moved up to relaxing by a beautiful pool where you could gaze at the mountains.
